How long does it last?

Premium architectural vinyl is warranted by the manufacturer for 10–12 years interior. In a real kitchen with everyday use, expect 7–10+ years of looking great, with high cupboards and pantries lasting 15+ and high-touch areas (under-sink, near cooktop) showing wear sooner.

Lifespan by zone

  • High cupboards, pantry, butler’s pantry: 12–15+ years. Almost no contact wear.
  • Cabinet doors and drawers (general): 8–12 years. Light edge wear over time, easily touched up.
  • Benchtops and islands: 7–10 years. Heat-tolerant but use trivets for very hot pots.
  • Under-sink cabinet, around the cooktop, kick boards: 5–8 years. Highest wear; can be re-wrapped piecewise without redoing the whole kitchen.

Heat, water and UV

Architectural films are rated continuous service to roughly 80°C interior. That covers everyday kitchen heat boiling kettles, oven doors, dishwasher steam, hot pans on a trivet. The only no-go is sustained direct flame contact, which would damage any kitchen finish (melamine, timber, painted MDF) the same way.

Water and steam tolerance is excellent. We have wraps in humidity-heavy Brisbane and Darwin kitchens going strong years on. UV tolerance varies by film the premium ranges (3M DI-NOC, Cover Styl) hold colour exceptionally well even in kitchens with big north-facing windows.

Do

  • Soft cloth or microfibre with warm soapy water for routine cleaning
  • Mild kitchen surface spray (Method, Koh, generic kitchen spray)
  • Diluted isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth for stubborn marks
  • Wipe up acidic spills (lemon, vinegar, tomato) within an hour
  • Use trivets and cutting boards not because the wrap can’t handle it, but because good kitchen hygiene

Don’t

  • Abrasive scourers, steel wool or scotch-brite pads
  • Bleach, ammonia, oven cleaner, scouring powders (Ajax, Jif)
  • Acetone, methylated spirits, paint stripper, citrus-based cleaners
  • Steam cleaners directly on edges and seams
  • Sustained direct flame contact (an open gas burner pressed against a vertical wrap)

Warranty

Premium films carry manufacturer warranties of 10–12 years for interior application against de-lamination, colour fade and yellowing under normal interior conditions. Our installation workmanship in Perth carries a separate 5-year warranty. DIY installs are warranted on the materials only if the install fails because of inadequate prep, the warranty doesn’t cover it, which is why we provide the prep guide so thoroughly.

When to re-wrap

Wrap can be removed cleanly and replaced without damaging the substrate beneath. If you want a different look in five years, no problem. If a high-touch area shows wear after 8–10 years, you can re-wrap just that piece without redoing the whole kitchen. A full re-wrap of a typical kitchen takes our crew 1–2 days and costs about the same as the original install.
